Living at Kinizsi Dorm: Two Friends, Two Years, A Lifetime of Memories

We are Elene and Ani, two Georgian friends studying at Corvinus University of Budapest. As second-year master’s students, this is our final semester living at Kinizsi Dorm. With the end of this chapter approaching, we can’t help but feel sentimental about moving on.

When we first entered Kinizsi, we didn’t know what to expect — it was our first time living in a dorm. What would it be like sharing spaces with so many people? Looking back now, those worries seem so small compared to everything we’ve gained.

Our room is cozy and practical, with all the essentials for a comfortable student life. Over two years, we’ve made it our own with decorations and a few plants (some even survived!). Each of us has our own desk and space, but what truly makes it special is the atmosphere we’ve created. Here we share laughter, late-night studies, and support during tough days.

The dorm offers more than just a place to stay. It’s a community of 400 students from all over the world, and every day here is an opportunity to learn something new. The shared kitchens are where we bonded with other students over meals, swapped recipes, and introduced our friends to Georgian cuisine.

And then there’s Africafe, the student club in the basement, which has been the heart of so many fun nights and cultural events.

Being located right next to the university’s central building, we’ve never had to worry about long commutes. On cold winter mornings, the five-minute walk to class feels like a luxury. It also means that we can run back to our room during breaks, whether it’s for a quick snack or a power nap.

Kinizsi has everything a student could need. The study room on the ground floor has been our sanctuary during exam season, and when we need to unwind, the gym downstairs is perfect for a quick workout to clear our heads.

Living in a dorm does have its challenges. Sharing showers and laundry rooms means having to be patient. But the little quirks of dorm life have actually taught us how to compromise and eventually embrace the beauty of shared living.

Our advice to anyone moving into Kinizsi is to make the most of every moment. Say yes to invitations, share your stories, and take the time to connect with the people around you. Dorm life is about much more than its facilities. For us, living in Kinizsi has been a journey of growth, friendship, and self-discovery. As we prepare to say goodbye, we know this place will stay in our hearts.
