Spring has finally come to Budapest. After a rainy winter, it is so refreshing to see the trees slowly start to blossom – and make the city even more beautiful. Budapest in spring is a whole different vibe, so make sure to check out all the places that are worth visiting right now. Don’t worry, though, we got your back – here are our recommendations and personal favourites: top-5 places to see in blossoming Budapest.
1. Go For a Hike
Late March and the beginning of April are the best times to schedule a refreshing hike. You can find multiple spots to go to in the city and a bit further away from it, starting from the famous Gellert Hill. Our recommendation is Normafa Park, to which you can get directly from Boraros Ter with 212 bus. It is a good walking place with beautiful views and far away from the city’s noise.
2. Take a Day Trip to Szentendre
Szentendre is a small, cute town 40 minutes away from Budapest. It is a perfect place to spend a warm spring day in. Student ticket for one HEV ride is just 155 HUF. You can find a lot of beautiful places there, alongside restaurants and cafes with delicious Hungarian, Serbian and many others cuisines. Of course, you have to talk a walk at a riverside – Szentendre has a beautiful Danube coast, so don’t miss out on it! It will take you approximately half a day to see everything the town has to offer, and the rest of the day you can just enjoy fresh air and picturesque views.
3. Visit Budapest Spring Festival
Every year, Budapest Spring Festival takes place in the heart of the city. It offers a range of performances, with famous musicians coming to play to Hungary! A38 Ship, Budapest Jazz Club, Akvárium Club, Kunsthalle, Uránia National Film Theatre, and several public locations will all host over 100 performances this year, ranging from classical music, opera, jazz, and world music to dance, contemporary circus, theatre, and visual arts. It is certainly worth it to check out the festival this year, make sure to pay a visit.
4. Bike Through the Streets
Budapest is a perfect city for biking! Make sure to put a short biking tour in your bucket list this spring. The Budapest-Szentendre route is among the most popular (and beautiful) ones, so we can strongly recommend for you to check it out. Also, Margaret Island is a very good place for biking, it is spacious, clean and bright. Of course, be careful when biking, and only do it if you feel confident enough in the city.
5. Check Out Bars With Terraces
Budapest never sleeps, but its night life will certainly go on a new level once the Sun is out. There plenty of great bars and cafes in the city (and around the University as well), but terraces and open spaces hit different in spring. Make sure to get together with your friends and create some great memories together on a warm spring evening. It’s a good way to relax in between upcoming midterms and schoolwork overall.
So, there you go – a small cheat sheet for you, if you don’t know what to do and where to go, but the weather makes you want to go outside and explore. Don’t waste your spring by staying at home – now is the time to go out and come back to life step by step. And now, you know exactly how to do it. Good luck!
